#1: Embrace your wild side

Look, let’s face it. If you want a neat, primped look, locking your hair may not be the best idea. Everyone knows that in the beginning phases of the #locjourney, your locs frizz pretty significantly, thus making it even harder to “tame”. As they grow and mature, some #locs may defy gravity and point straight towards the heavens while others hang low towards the ground. Some areas of the head lock faster than others and some, depending on your texture, take over a year to actually lock (eek!!).

Locs are representations of ones’ willingness to reject conformity and ones unwillingness to be defined by traditional standards of beauty, particularly as they relate to hair. Your locs are reflections of your wild, rebellious side as you’ve chosen to allow your hair to matriculate through a nonconventional journey with very little control of the outcome.

As you venture through these transitions, embrace the nonconformity and watch your mane shift, move and lock from a place of pride and authenticity. You made an amazing decision that very few could make.

In real life, I encourage you to also embrace your wild side. Embrace what makes you stand out from the norm and what sets you apart from everyone else. You were uniquely and divinely created to leave an everlasting imprint on this world and that’s hard to do if you’re hiding behind social norms and the status quo.

Like your #locd mane, be BOLD and be WILD. It’s what makes you, YOU!
